Want to End the Madness? Wedding Apps that WILL Change the Scenery

5 Helpful Wedding Planning Apps That WILL Help You Save Yourself!!

Weddings are magical, but sometimes the planning may seem like it requires a magician. Having to take the budget and fit the bookings, vendors, guest lists, invitations, all within it can make you voluntarily want to pull your hair out, but have no fear! With all the latest development in smartphone technology, there are dozens of wedding planning apps out there that are super helpful.

Whether you’re afraid of going over your budget, your playlist screwing up in the middle of the first dance, or worrying about losing track of who does RSVP and who hasn’t, there’s an app for that – trust us on this one. We’re big tech people.

While there are a ton of different apps out there, some of them are “full of it.” So, we’ve narrowed it down to our top five favorite FREE wedding planning apps that have the best reviews from those who successfully tied the knot.

5 Great Wedding Planning Smartphone Apps

1. Wedding Happy. With all the wedding apps out there, Wedding Happy has to be the easiest and most efficient to use. Instead of having to enter your email address and all that unnecessary information, all you need to do is enter your wedding date and it will begin to build you a customized to-do list. The only reason you’d need to enter your email address would be to set up the “Export and Email” feature which allows you to directly contact your vendors through the app. It basically puts your entire wedding into one little portal for you to use, and it does all the organizing for you.

2. The Knot. The Wedding Dress Look Book by The Knot is a great free application for those brides who have no idea what they want their dress to look like. With several helpful filters such as size, theme/style, and what you’re specifically not looking for (strapless, short, pink etc.), this app will generate hundreds of dress options that fit your credentials.

3. Wedding Budget. One of the most stressful things with planning a wedding is staying within the budget and doing your best not to go too over. Well, with Wedding Budget, some of that stress will be managed by neatly organizing what expenses have been paid and which you still have to pay, or even book for that matter. Oh, and it’s really easy to use, too.

4. Pinterest. From common things to add to your wedding checklist, to finding dresses, and quirky bridesmaid ideas, Pinterest has everything. Pinterest is full of unique ideas if you’re stuck with planning any part of your wedding. Whether you’re looking budget friendly party favors or a pre-wedding fitness plan, Pinterest has it all, and it’s free and insanely simple to use.

5. Gift Registry 360. Instead of registering at just one store and limiting what you need to what they supply, Gift Registry allows you to scan any bar-code and it compiles your registry into one organized list. Once an item is purchased, it is automatically updated so you don’t end up with five different sets of pots and pans. This app is free in the iTunes App Store.

Wedding Day Gifts That Matter: Cigar Sells Itself

Surprising Your Groom On The Big Day

The big day is coming up faster than you thought it would and while you pretty much have all the big details figured out (i.e. planning the entire wedding), you’re stuck finding a creative gift to get your future husband. Now, when it comes to giving a gift to your future spouse before the wedding, the guys inevitably have it easier because they can get away with a nice piece of jewelry or something new or even blue. However, getting a gift for the guys that isn’t just a nice bottle of Jack Daniels can be a real brain teaser. If you’re struggling with finding that gift that is both practical and something your groom will enjoy, we’ve come up with a few ideas that you’re more than willing to borrow.

5 Creative Gifts for Your Groom on Wedding Day: Better Than You’d Expect!

This is the guy you’re going to be spending the rest of your life with. It’s a one a done deal. So, getting him the last gift he’ll receive before he’s married can amount to a lot of pressure. How do you find something that reflects his personality, as well as yours, all while guaranteeing he’ll use it? Well, all it takes is a little bit of creativity and some time to gather the gift(s).

1. Customized Cuff Links:

It’s not until you up your dating game that you realize how a well-dressed man dresses and what goes into their wardrobe. Every man loves a nice set of cufflinks, whether they’re quirky and super hero themed, or classic and engraved, they’ll be put to good use. Plus, think about it this way. There’s always that 50/50 chance you’ll hit an anniversary that your husband will forget so, if you gift him those new pair of cufflinks with your wedding date engraved into them, he’ll never forget.

2. Custom Engraved Cigars:

Now this is one of our favorites. Not only do custom cigars mean something to your groom because it takes some effort to get the order perfect, but he can also enjoy them with his groomsmen which he’ll love. There are those few moments before you walk down the aisle when you spend your time with the bridesmaids and your future husband spends time with his groomsmen — it’s that final hoorah, and what better way to let him have that final “single guys hangout” than with custom engraved cigars? Whether they have the date of your wedding on them, or both of your initials, cigars are traditional and the customized aspect will reflect greatly in photos.

3. Engraved Flask:

Every guy has tried sneaking a flask into a sporting event, or maybe they’ll get invited to that business party that doesn’t have an open bar. Well, when this happens, he’ll greatly admire a custom flask that is easy to clean, reminds him of you, and hold a substantial amount of his favorite liquor.

4. Engraved Watch:

Every man loves a good designer watch and luckily they can all be engraved. Now, you don’t have to engrave the watch with the standard, “Together Forever,” then the date of your wedding, but you can engrave any little message that he can look at and smile if he’s having a rough day. Gifting him his favorite designer watch that has a personal message from you is one of the most practical gifts you can get him because it’s not so much for the engraver on it, but the overall practicality of it.

5. Groomsmen Packages:

If you want to really make an impact, do a slight combination of the aforementioned gift ideas. This idea takes a little more time and effort, but that’s because it’s for your groom and his best friends. This just consists of putting together a small men’s care package. The best thing to do is go out and buy enough airplane size bottles of your groom’s favorite liquor so each guy gets one, then custom cigars with your initials laser engraved, and new cufflinks that go along with your weddings color theme, or even their ties you want them to wear. This will allow the guys to have a drink together, a smoke, and help each other finish getting ready. You know?

It’s that essential “bro” bonding that your groom will admire and appreciate.

What Brides Should NOT Expect From Bridesmaids

Now, as a bride, we understand that choosing your few favorite best friends can be a difficult task, but it’s important to never ask the one’s that you expect to give you some unnecessary gifts. What the bride needs to understand is that your bridesmaids are taking on enough of a financial and emotional responsibility simply by saying, “Yes.” Therefore, it’s important to work with them and accept what each one can offer you – on a support level, not financial.

So, with all that being said, what are the top 5 things that brides should never EXPECT from their bridesmaids? Let us go ahead and tell you.

Don’t Expect Weight-Loss

One of the worst things you can expect from your bridesmaids is that they will lose an extreme amount of weight before your wedding. Whether you feel they’re a little overweight, or if you’re worried they may stress eat – you asked them to be your bridesmaid as they are, not as you want them to be.

Don’t Plan On Receiving Some BIG Gift

Think about it this way – your bridesmaids are already spending money on the potential destination wedding, bridal shower, bachelorette party, as well as their dresses and hair/make-up. Do you really think it’s fair to expect some massive, expensive gift? Honestly, the best thing for you to do is just be happy they showed up and have been supporting you throughout all your wedding stress. They’re emotional support, not financial.

Don’t Make The Bachelorette A Destination

Trips can be expensive – that’s the bottom line. As we’ve mentioned before, it’s important to keep their budget in mind, just as you keep your wedding budget in mind. The bachelorette doesn’t have to be in Vegas or somewhere international, it just has to be somewhere fun where all you girls can take out her single life with a bang!

Don’t Think They Can Read Your Mind

Yes, they may be your best friends, but if they haven’t been able to read your mind over the past few years, they still probably can’t now. Therefore, you need to be vocal about what you want and don’t just let the bridesmaids battle it out to make the decision for you.

Don’t Anticipate Them Being Perfect

This is one of the worst things you could do – and this is the cardinal rule. It wraps in the above four tipsr while also bringing in other points. Your bridesmaids are going through a lot of emotions as their best friend gets married off into the real world, and weddings are no cheap affair. So, accept them for who they are, you asked your bridesmaids individually for a reason and it’s best to just trust they’ll be there for you as often and as best as they can.

Don’t Expect Them To Find The Perfect DJ, that Plays Non Stop Music You Love!

In NYC and the sounding areas, quality disc jockeys are a rarity.  From the downtown club hopper slinging the next Miley Cyrus jam, to the up and coming performers of Albany New York, getting the highest level service is one of toughest tasks.  Below is a perfect example of Class, Passion, and Professionalism:

My Journey to Capitol Hill: Fight against Counterfeiters

If you don’t know already, Intellectual Property theft affects every industry and as a small business owner, it is something I deal with and fight against every day because it makes it very hard to survive.   When you have an idea or design and you work hours upon hours, pour blood, sweat and money into starting your business and putting your ideas out there and then you find your images, your name, your dress designs on thousands of rogue websites selling counterfeit versions of you….well, you can imagine the frustration!

What makes it worse is when you hear countless stories from brides who ordered from these sites, being scammed into receiving a dress that is nothing like the one in the photo and then have nobody to turn to because it’s not actually the designer’s dress.  On our website, LizFields.com, we have created a “Buyer Beware” section to try and educate women shopping for wedding dresses or bridesmaids dresses on how to spot these fakes and we even created a tool where you can type in the web address where you saw a Liz Fields dress and we will tell you right away if this is a counterfeit site or an authorized retailer.  Unfortunately, not many take the time or even think to check with us before making a purchase.

For a little while now, I have been in contact with the US Chamber of Commerce Global Intellectual Property Center, which does so much to support small businesses like mine from IP theft and educate us on what we can do to protect ourselves.  Recently, they gave me the opportunity to be part of a panel of speakers at a Small Business event at Capitol Hill.  Yesterday this briefing took place and I was able to tell my story to Congress staffers with the hope that it would resonate and some reforms could begin to take place.

That's me on Capitol Hill!! :)

That’s me on Capitol Hill!! :)

I loved Washington, DC since going to college there, but now, I have a renewed respect for all those who work to try and make reforms on behalf of us.  It’s no easy task…and as I saw yesterday, a lot goes into getting these conversations started and then keeping them going to the finish line.  Regardless, it reminded me that we are so lucky to live in a country where these conversations are even possible.

I had the pleasure of meeting some amazing people and I look forward to continuing my effort, no matter how small, in getting heard and reform started.

For now, please educate yourselves and others around you.  If the price is too good to be true, then it is probably not authentic.  If you aren’t sure about the Liz Fields dress listing you are seeing on a site, check with us on our Buyer Beware section.  You can also check out Bridal Beware more more information on counterfeit gowns and shopping tips.  If it’s something else you’re shopping for, check with the company’s website to make sure you are purchasing from an authorized retailer.   I will be posting some resources and links to this blog shortly so please stay tuned and I’ll keep you updated on my journey.
