“The Passionate Musician”

For Jenna music is more than a passion; it is a way of life. She could never have fallen in love with anyone other than a musician, because music is a whole other language for her.  Their first date was at a local coffee house where they listened to unknown talent vent about life, love, and the New York subway.  On their second date they got all dolled up and went to The New York Philharmonic. And their third date they spent cuddled on her sofa drinking wine and watching La Boheme on TV.  Needless to say, Jenna gets very excited when she talks about music.  She told her (now) fiancé on their first date that her favorite thing about music is the way it can always surprise her;  starting out slowly and gracefully until, towards the end,  just when you have gotten used to that tempo and volume, the melody bursts into a fortissimo and brings you to your feet.  This is the exact feeling Jenna got when she saw the dress of her dreams, Liz Fields original, style 9012.  This dress starts at the top with a sweetheart neckline which is intricately hand beaded with floral motifs.  The beading becomes more spaced and delicate towards the waistline, and then just when you think your eyes think they know what’s coming next, the cascading organza sets a whole new tempo.  You can be sure than Jenna will be dancing down the aisle when she wears this gown.

This dress is absolutely breathtaking on! Your waist will magically appear teeny tiny, hiding any and every imperfection,  and the skirt is completely original with vintage charm and will make everybody’s heads spin!

“The Outdoor Adventurer “

As a little girl Ella used to lie on a blanket in her backyard staring up at the sky through the leaves. As she grew older, Ella discovered that hiking was the only thing that could make her happy no matter how the rest of her life was going. When she failed a test in school, or had a fight with her sister, the trees brought her back to her center. As fate would have it, it was hiking that ultimately brought Ella love as well.  On a day in the early autumn Ella was on her favorite trail when she heard a rustling.  She froze in her spot worrying that she had accidently disturbed a bear, but instead she found a man who had tripped on some rocks and sprained his ankle. From this chance meeting Ella and her injured hiker grew a relationship.  A year later Ella’s hiker proposed to her in the spot they met. He stumbled, pretending to fall, and then quickly turned around on one knee and produced a ring.  Just like Ella knew instantly that her answer was yes, she knew that she had found her dress when she saw Liz Field’s original, style 8224. Ella’s favorite thing about her dress is the way it drapes around her perfectly. It is strapless with shirred panels and beaded charmeuse bands at the neckline and waste. Ella loves that the fly away panel on the front of her skirt which makes her seem like she is floating when she walks. Ella and her fiancé are getting married in the backyard of her childhood home, under her favorite big tree.

“The Princess”

Lorelei is a girl who enjoys the finer things in life.  She has worked very hard to get to where she is and she plans to enjoy her special day!  Lorelei is not somebody who likes to go home after work; she wants to go out!  Dancing, fine dining, and opening receptions at art galleries…she is there!  Lorelei enjoys spending time with people who intellectually stimulate her and has passed on many guys who did not make the cut.  She does have a lesser known silly side too, as her favorite way to spend time with her friends continues to be going to the local elementary school and swinging on the swing set. It was there that she confided in her best friends that she had found someone who not only pampered her, but also was always up for a good debate!  Lorelei described to her girls that she wanted a dress that would make her feel like a princess plain and simple.  Lorelei’s princess dress materialized before her eyes when she found a Liz Fields original, style 9005. It had a strapless sweetheart satin neckline with an asymmetric pick-up skirt, perfect for dancing in a ballroom.  The jeweled and beaded, scalloped lace band at the waste truly makes this into Lorelei’s perfect princess wedding dress.

“The Sweetheart “

Michelle is what most people would call a shy person. The truth is, it just takes her a little time to open up.  But once she does, she is everyone’s best friend and confidante.   She is a girly girl in that she loves a good romantic comedy, and cries during every one of them, but she doesn’t spend a lot of time putting on makeup in the morning.  In general her clothing tends more towards jeans than dresses. One of her favorite ways to spend an evening is curled up on the sofa with her fiancé and her kitten watching a movie.  Michelle’s dream wedding is on the beach at sunset, and her heart is set on finding an elegantly understated dress with unique details which will make her feel special and beautiful.  In Liz Fields original, style 8270 it was initially the beautiful beading detail that caught her eye. However, it was the gracefully draped, detachable one-shoulder strap which made her fall in love. Elegant and soft like her personality this gown also has asymmetric shirring on the skirt.  When she wears it you can almost imagine it moving in the ocean breeze.

Prints, Florals, Lace and Vintage by Ariel Hahn

Guest Blog written by Ariel Hahn- Liz Fields Intern

On Tuesday I had the fabulous opportunity to go to two textile/surface design market shows: Direction by Indigo joined by Première Vision Preview New York and PrintSource.  Walking in to one of these shows can be overwhelming to the eye at first; there is color and pattern everywhere! The rooms are filled with design collections from around the world. We spent time wandering and feasting our eyes on everything from exquisite lace, and vintage textiles, to whimsical patterns, and delicate florals.

An interesting thing that the Premiervision exhibit did was to break the exhibitors down by 4 groups of “style universe.”  So for example “Seduction” encompassed embroidery, lace and other luxurious fabrics. “Relax” had fabrics such as denim, cotton, and so on.  We found that “Seduction” in particular had some beautiful fabrics for us to keep in mind here at Liz Fields.

From looking around, a lot of people seem to be predicting that a major trend in surface design is going to be tribal inspiration.  I certainly hope that is true because I really enjoy the way designers are reinventing them.  The brighter colors that appeared here and the use of scale gave these designs a playful vibe.  With bold Ikat prints, high contrast geometric repeats, and animal skin inspired prints, the energy coming from these fabrics could not be ignored.

Another trend I noticed was a lot of florals. This, in general would be no surprise. However, the way the studios chose to stylize their florals is what was interesting.  While there was an appearance of subtle delicate floral designs, there seemed to be a bigger turn towards the brushed and watercolor inspired effects in the florals, a theme I found myself particularly attracted too.

(Photos via www.patternpeople.com)

This same watercolor sensibility appeared in many fabrics other fabrics as beautifully  purely abstracted fields of color texture pattern as well.  Along those lines, another favorite abstract trend I noticed were fabrics that appeared to have been marbleized in both jewel and subdued tones.

Overall if was a truly inspiring day! Bring on the sketching!

“The Bubbly Beauty”

Lo-Ve-La by Liz Fields Bridal style #9004

Lo-Ve-La by Liz Fields Bridal style #9004

The first thing everyone notices about Gabriele is her smile; she is always smiling.  Her bubbly personality is infectious and makes even the quietest person open up after a few short minutes.  Every guy that meets Gabriele falls in love with her, which in the past has made her feel terrible. However, she became very good and letting the boys down in a way that assured they always remained friends. The girls wanted to hate Gabriele for this, but they couldn’t.   With the boys beating down her door one would expect that Gabriele would have spent most of her nights out on the town. The truth is that Gabriele’s favorite way to spend the evening has always been with her little sister.  Growing up, she would come straight home from school and help her with her homework.  At night she wanted to be the one to read her stories and tuck her baby sister into bed. Now that they are older, and the big day is approaching, Gabriele knew she would be doing her wedding dress shopping with no one other than her little sister.  The dress that both girls fell in love with was Liz Fields original, style 9004.  Gabriele loves that the feminine and flirty strapless gown with shirred layers of tulle over laces fit her like a glove.  Her sister’s favorite part is the double tiered tulle mermaid skirt.  Not only is this dress sister approved, but will certainly make Gabriele‘s smile the second thing people notice on her wedding day.

I’d like to take this opportunity to wish everybody a very happy and healthy New Year! I hope everybody had a great time celebrating the beginning of 2010 which is sure to be an awesome year.

I’d also like to congratulate all the newly engaged couples out there.  Holiday season is always a popular time for proposals, as there are many perfect opportunities that arise!  So congrats and good luck with all the wedding planning out there.  Definitely feel free to email me at LizFields@LizFields.com or contact me through Facebook.com/byLizFields or Twitter.com/byLizFields if you need any help or tips with your weddings planning.

To kick off the new year, I would like to begin an “Inspiration Series” where I will post a couple times a week a story about the girl I imagined when I designed each of the gowns in my bridal and destination wedding dress collections.  I hope that these stories will be good fun to read and relate to, but I hope that you will give each one that you love an equal chance regardless of what inspired me to design the gown.  Each dress that I make is made with the idea that a woman will be wearing the gown and that the gowns’ purpose is to enhance the woman wearing it and make her feel like the most sophisticated beauty in all the world.

I hope that you’ll tune into my blogs each week for several “Inspiration Series” posts as well as other posts about things I find in Fashion News and Red Carpet reports that I find interesting!

Lo-Ve-La by Liz Fields (Pronounced Low-vella) Bridal Gown Style #9016:

“The Outgoing Artist”

Tiffany is very outgoing and loves to talk to her friends for hours. She has never worn anything in her life which didn’t have bright colors in it. Her days are spent making sculptures which are as bright and bold as her favorite outfits. Tiffany would be wearing hot pink in her wedding if it hadn’t been her dream as a little girl to have a white wedding dress.  Instead, she has chosen a dress which speaks through its sculptural 3-D embellishments.  The dress that Tiffany is wearing is a Liz Fields original, style 9016 in white taffeta. It has an asymmetrical sweetheart neckline with scalloped lace detail, and a hand stitched 3-D design on the skirt. Tiffany is in love with the fact that it is hand stitched! In this dress Tiffany can show her personality and still feel like a princess walking down the aisle. You needn’t worry about lack of color in Tiffany’s wedding though, since you can be sure her Bridesmaids are wearing a Liz Fields original style 229 in hot pink.
