“The Fashionable Femme”

There is only one thing that Kate loves more than fashion and that is her new fiancé (It was a close race for a while).  Kate’s bedroom walls are covered in magazine images of celebrities on the Red Carpet.  In her spare time Kate loves sewing, sketching, and spending time with her guy.  Kate knows what is hot in fashion, so it was no surprise that she choose to wear a Liz Fields original, style 9015. Kate wanted to look stunning and stylish for her own Red Carpet walk, which is why she fell in love with this Taffeta gown with asymmetrical wraps around the body, creating beautiful and interesting panels and lines. Kate knows that for an outfit to be perfect certain parts must be beautifully understated in order for the details to shine. This is why she loves the fact that the intermittent wrapping of her dress slowly leads her eye to her favorite part, the beautiful hand beading detail on the bodice.  Kate can now walk down the Red Carpet, or the aisle on her wedding day, with her head held high.

“The Star of the Show”

Rose is someone with a flair for the dramatic. Rather than pursuing acting, she chose to be part of the inner workings of the theater industry as a stage manager.  Rose is devoted to her craft.  If it is tech week, don’t expect to see her at all, (something her finance has grown used too).  Now that her wedding is coming closer it is clear that Rose has spent enough time backstage, and is ready to step into the spotlight as leading lady on her wedding day! Rose has seen enough leading lady gowns to know her dress needs to be dramatic and detailed. When Rose saw Liz Fields original, style 9010 she couldn’t decide which detail she loved more:  the intricate beading and embroidery on the bodice, the sexy and striking corset back, or the cascading volume of the gown.  Rose cannot wait to be the star of her own show in this gown!

Buzz From the Chicago Bridal Market

I just got back from the Chicago Bridal Market, and it was a huge success! People seem to be very excited about our new looks for the fall.

We’re getting some great comments from around the web! Check out what people are saying about our new gowns!

Growing Kookey Together raves:  “ I simply loved everything by Liz Fields. Her style is very fun yet sophisticated and she’s really thinking about functionality as well. Mrs. Powderpuff posted about a bridal gown by Liz Fields that went from long to short…but never fear, bridesmaids, there’s one for you as well!”

Crafts and Cardigans writes about our newest convertible gown: “Liz Fields had some really awesome dresses as well. This one converts from a long, beautiful dress to a short lacy number by simply removing the skirt. Business on top. Party underneath

Bridal Designer Tips for your Search!

Planning a wedding can seem like a daunting task, from finding the dress of your dreams, to choosing a color scheme, then finding bridesmaid gowns your friends can agree on, and all within a budget! The good news is that it can be fun and, with a few tips, it can be pretty stress-free too!

This season there is no shortage of exciting fashion trends to choose from when searching for your perfect gown.

As Head Designer of Liz Fields, specializing in bridal, bridesmaid and special occasion gowns, I would like to make your life just a little easier by giving you a quick overview of what I have noticed to be the top styles, fabrics and colors this season.

Traditional ballroom gowns are always popular, but this year they appear to be in full force. Ballroom gowns tend to make you feel like a princess and create that perfect hourglass shape, while disguising areas you might be self-conscious about! If you want the feel of a ballroom gown but would like some added zest to it, be sure to try a dress with asymmetric draping. Floral embellishmentsare also a great way to update the princess cut dress. Florals of all shapes and sizes are in this season so you could pick a dress with a more delicate flower, or one with eye catching rosettes.

If the ballroom silhouette doesn’t suite your fancy, opt for modern silhouettes that are getting a lot of attention this season; the sheath and the fit &flare. If you love your figure and have some curves, these are great styles to show it off in!

On the cutting edge of fashion is the asymmetrical one-shoulder gown. These styles happen to be some of my favorites this season and are an update on the traditional strapless gown. Elegant and romantic, the one-shoulder gown will beautifully accentuate your neck and shoulders. Planning a destination wedding? Definitely think about the one-shoulder option!

Color is becoming a more popular accessory on bridal gowns with small splashes and details in colors. An easy way to add color to any white dress is to add a sash or a flower in a color. Colors like champagne and gold are common, but think about adding a hint of your bridal party color into the mix for a different approach.

Brides this season seem to be looking for comfort, elegance, and value. When you have to wear a gown for hours of photography, ceremony and reception you want to make sure that you are comfortable to dance and enjoy the night away. Also, with the economy at a lull, most women are on a budget and do not want to spend thousands of dollars on a wedding gown and hundreds on bridesmaids gowns.

Look for light and airy fabrics such as taffeta, organza and chiffon which are overtaking the heavier fabrics of previous seasons. These fabrics look beautiful layered and tend to be easier to wear. Also, you can find collections which are available at moderate prices and provide the consumer with great value, but be sure to always purchase your bridal gown from an authorized retailer.

Be sure to start looking for your gown early so that you can get a great deal and avoid stressful situations. While you can usually find some options available in a rush, most Designers will need about 3 months to make your gown and then the boutique will need another 2 months to properly fit you several times to ensure the perfect dress for your big day! With bridesmaid dresses, Designers ask for about two months and usually a dress will only need to be fit and altered once for each member of the bridal party.

Wedding experts agree that when searching for your perfect dress be open-minded and willing to try on dresses that might not be the style you had imagined. Often, you may be surprised and a gown you envisioned does not flatter your body the way something you did not even consider may! Above all remember to have fun planning for you big day, because in the end the only thing that matters is your happiness.

82nd Academy Award Dresses

The 82nd Annual Academy Awards were last Sunday, yet another reason for Actresses to spend days and weeks planning their perfect (or not so perfect) look.

To me to the actresses who were most successful in pulling off their looks were the ones who knew their own bodies and how best to flatter them.  I think that some actresses get so excited about wearing a big name designer’s dress that they overlook the fact that It might not look right on their figure.

Take Mo’Nique’s dress for example. She is dressing with intelligence and awareness of her own body. She knows she has a voluptuous figure, so she consistently chooses dresses which accentuate her curves and trim her waistline. Asymmetric draping is the perfect slenderizing strategy!

Some people commented that Sandra Bullock ignored the fashion trends for this season, and I say that’s OKAY because she looked great.  Bullock wore a silver metallic, fitted gown adorned with embroidered flowers. She commented to Women’s Wear Daily that her stepdaughter had helped her choose her dress only the day before! Somehow while others were hemming and hawing for weeks, and reserving entire collections in their name so that there would be no double dress mishaps, Sandra finds a dress in the last minute that is both elegant, and flattering to her figure!

I wasn’t entirely certain what to think about Zoe Saldana’s dress. On one hand the bottom is fun and unique; on the other hand, that’s a lot of look. In the end though, it seems to me this is a case of someone being too in love with the dress to notice that it didn’t really do anything for her.

Sarah Jessica Parker was another one who was the talk of the town.  I’ve seen her on both the best and worst dressed lists so far. To me again it’s a question of knowing what looks good. Sure Channel Haute Couture sound fabulous, but not really if it’s shapeless and gives you no figure.

I’ll end with my favorite dress of the night, Rachel McAdams.  This dress looked like it was made for her and her alone. Not only was it perfect for her figure, but it also did a beautiful job of giving a nod towards the spring fabric trends for this season with its brushed and water color inspired fabric effects.

“The Canine Crusader”

Kristen considers herself to be one of the luckier people in the world because she gets loving kisses all day long!  Not by her soon to be husband, mind you, but by the other loves of her life…her dogs!  Kristen spends her day working as an adoption consultant for dogs at her local shelter. Knowing that one of her canine friends is being sent home with the perfect family is Kristen’s favorite feeling in the world. When Kristen goes home for the day she is again bombarded with wet kisses, still not from her fiancé, but by her own three dogs.  Only after her puppies have welcomed her home does her guy get his turn to say hello.  No worries though, he knows she is worth the wait.  Although Kristin loves spending her days covered in fur and doggie kisses, she is looking forward to feeling special, and even dare we say, sexy, on her wedding day.  Kristen is thrilled to be walking down the aisle in this luxurious platinum satin Liz Fields original dress, style 9003, with a mermaid silhouette and gorgeous beading and embroidery details.  When Kristen’s fiancé sees her in this dress he will know for sure that he is actually the lucky one.
