Prom Trends From Liz Fields

Liz Fields Prom

It is the last week in August and some of you may be noticing a slight chill in the air as you walk outside in the morning.  For many, high school will be starting next week, and you know what that means… prom is right around the corner! Well maybe not “right around”, but it is certainly not too early to start planning what you want to wear!

Of course, I’m excited about prom season because this will be the year we premier our Liz Fields prom collection!  I hope you will love it as much as I loved creating it.

What I want to share with you today is some of the inspiration behind our prom line, and the trends that we at Liz Fields predicted for the prom 2012 season.

  • Bold colors, such as bright purples, turquoises, and shades of red.
  • In contrast, we noticed that white dresses were going to be another trend, possibly influenced by Pippa Middleton wearing a white dress to her sister Kate Middleton’s wedding.  On a side note, if you are looking for a dress inspired by Pippa Middelton’s fashion , take a look at Liz Fields bridesmaid dress style 400.
  • Showing a little skin is a prom trend that is continuing on to Spring 2012.  This could be anything from a flirty slit on the skirt, to a cut-out on the back of the dress.
  • Sequined dresses have been around for a long time, going in and out of style. This year you will be seeing the sequins used to create a larger pattern on the dress, in addition to the all-around shimmer that is classically known.

Dress Guide for the Holidays: Style Tips from Wedding Dress Designer, Liz Fields

I know that deciding what to wear during the holidays can be daunting.  Here is a little style guide that I have put together for the holiday season.  I hope that you find it helpful, but, most of all, don’t forget to have fun!  You will look great no matter what you are wearing!

The Occasion- The holiday dinner where you meet HIS parents for the first time

Liz Fields Bridesmaid & Social Dress Style #350

The explanation – It is important not to seem overly sexy but still show off your beautiful self.  This strapless social occasion dress is perfect for the stressful, make-it-or-break-it event.  The square-neckline is flattering without showing off too much skin.  The added wrap-around bow detail could even give the subliminal message that you are the perfect gift for their son!

The Occasion- Evening get-together with your family (be it Christmas Eve,  Hanukkah, Kwanza, or a reunion)

Liz Fields Bridesmaid & Social Dress Style #365

The explanation – Having a family dinner can feel like navigating a minefield, depending on your personal family dynamic.  You want to look your best to keep any ‘loving criticisms’ to a minimum.  At the same time, you may not want to dress too obviously sexy because like the “meeting his parents challenge,” it might not go over the way you intended.  In this case, social occasion dress , style 365 will fit the bill. The v-neck will look stunning on you, while the pencil skirt will remind your family that you are the good daughter!

The Occasion –  Girls night out

Liz Fields Bridesmaid & Social Dress Style #255

The explanation – It’s time to have some fun with the girls, and maybe even exchange some of those presents.  Now that you don’t have to worry about what you need to keep covered up,  feel free to let loose with this special occasion dress.  The wrapped details in the bodice are figure flattering, so all of your friends will be jealous of how great you look (even if you don’t want to admit you were trying)!

The Occasion – New Year’s Eve

Liz Fields Bridesmaid & Social Dress Style #370

The explanation – Whether you are spending the night alone with your special someone or going to a big party, this a time to make sure you look and feel your best. The Chinese see red as the color of happiness and wealth so why not add a little red detail as a good luck charm for the new year to come (it will look sexy too).  This V-neck, halter-top social occasion dress will do just that.

Now, don’t forget that after the Holidays wind down, Valentine’s Day is right around the corner!  This day is especially important if you learn that the man in your life is planning on proposing.  With that in mind, you might want to start giving some thought to what you’ll be wearing on that special night!  Personally, I would go with something cute, short, flirty, and of course red.  Perhaps something like this  red  formal dress, Style #362.

Of course, after he proposes, you know exactly where to head to pick out the perfect wedding gown!

Happy Holidays!

62nd Primetime Emmy Awards

The 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards were on Sunday, and it saddens me to say that over all I was left feeling completely underwhelmed by the fashion I saw.  It used to be that you could watch the Emmys and be inspired left and right by almost every gown that came down the  Red Carpet, now, not so much.  It’s not to say that in the past the dresses were ALL good, but, the dramatic fashion forward gowns usually overruled the mundane or horrifying.  This year it felt as if everyone remembered the Emmys one or two days before the event, and ran  for whatever evening gown they could find on short notice, even if it was not extremely flattering or interesting.  It’s true there was some beautiful fashion, but they were few and far between; more on the good fashion later.

First, let’s do a quick style rundown.

What was popular this year?  Sparkles, sequins, and more sparkles!  In fact,  it seemed to be sparkles first, fit second.  Brides, when you’re searching for your perfect bridal gown do NOT take your fashion hints  from the 62nd Emmy Awards.  A perfectly fitting and flattering dress in a classic fabric will look 1000 times better on you than a flashy ill-fitting bridal gown.

Total number of glitter covered gowns I counted: 12

Another major style walking down the runway was the one-shoulder gown.  One-shoulder evening gowns can be very flattering, and give an added interest to a simple silhouette.  There is no denying that one-shoulder dresses are a very now.  Of course, it used to be that the red carpet gowns would be a window into tomorrow’s looks, rather than a reflection of current trends, but that certainly doesn’t diminish their fashion factor.

Total number of one-shoulder gowns I counted: 17

The next fashion trend I preface with a warning:  Do NOT try this at home.  Cut out dresses were scattered across Red Carpet this year, for reasons that are beyond me

I cannot name one person where this style has made their figure look better than it would have if they had worn a whole dress.  Even if you happen to be a size 0, in my humble opinion you will still look skinnier if you leave the holes for your Swiss cheese.

Total number of cut out style dresses I counted: 4 too many

As with any award show, the next day almost everyone will dole out their awards and opinions for best and worst dressed.  However, this year’s Emmy Awards warranted a little more than just best and worst in my book.

The award for the best Saloon Girl dress:  Cristina Hendrix

The award for the most ordinary dress:  Kim Kardashian

Honestly, it even looks similar to Rose Byrne’s dress from the same night.

The award for the most beautiful dress:  Lea Michelle  (Even though in my opinion this style it has been done before).

The award for the most terrifying/made me want to cry dress:  Anna Paquin

The award for the most baffling dress:  Lauren Grahm.

Lauren, I love you, you have a beautiful figure and generally a great fashion sense, what happened?

The award for the dress most flattering for the figure: Kelly Osbourne

And finally, the award for the most interesting style and best dressed overall: Tina Fey
