DIY: Personalized Wedding Hanger – For Under $10!

Having a personalized hanger to hold your wedding dress is becoming a new trend that makes a great gift for a bride to be!  However, if you want to have a unique hanger this can get pricey and is an unnecessary added expense. Here is an inexpensive and quick way of creating your own personalized hanger:

Materials:

-14 gauge galvanized wire (available at any home improvement store)

-Wire cutters

-Needle nose pliers (you can find a 2-in-1 tool that cuts & bends wire)

-Wooden hangers

-Drill with drill bit about the size of your wire

-Glue gun or strong gorilla glue

-Pen and paper

Step 1: Pre-plan your font

We suggest writing or printing out exactly how you want your font on a piece of paper before you start to bend your wire, this will make it easier to see how your finished product will look!

STEP 2: Measure & Bend your wire

Start to measure out how much wire you will need for your hanger, allow approximately 10 to 12 inches of wire per letter plus a little more so you can attach it to your hanger.

Tip: Cut a few extra practice pieces of wire, it will take a couple tries to get your bending just right but be patient!

Step 3: Drill!

Drill two holes in the bottom inside of the hanger but don’t go all the way through, you may want to just go in a 1/2-inch or so.

Step 4: Attaching the wire

On both sides of the wire put a small amount of glue, be careful not to put too much since the wire will not fit nicely into the hanger and you will see the excess glue.

Step 5: Accessorize (optional)

You can decorate your hanger by tying a bow around the hook or gluing on rhinestones to the wood. This is your chance to make it even more personalized and creative!

Wedding Day Makeup

When planning your wedding day most brides think about their wedding dress first, then maybe what accessories they will wear, and then what bridesmaid dresses their party will wear.  However during wedding planning it is also important to think about what you would like your wedding day makeup to look like!  Here are a few wedding makeup trends to help you draw inspiration from.

‘The Color Smoky Eye’

A smoky eye no longer means shades of grey, black with a silver highlight!

For a more modern look use shades of purple, green and blue to create a ‘bridal appropriate’ smoky eye. This is a more unconventional look that could be daring for a lot of brides but done in a subtle matter with the correct shades will make your eyes pop!

‘The Bold Lip’

Sometimes Women make the mistake of playing up more than one feature at a time. You do not want to look like you’ve decided to put on all the makeup you own at once! Chose you best feature that you want to accentuate and work on that.
A bold red or pink lip is a romantic choice that is a simple way of tying your look together if you don’t want to pile on the makeup.

‘The Golden Eye’

This is a new trend that has shown up on the 2013 Runway’s, a goddess golden eye! Sweep a shade of deep gold with a copper brown in the crease to highlight your eyes and achieve a sexy, dewy complexion. This is perfect for darker skin tones!

Airbrush Makeup!

To get your foundation to last all day consider using airbrush foundation! This gives a flawless finish that will cover all imperfections and discoloration. If you don’t feel the need to purchase your own airbrush foundation, go to your local makeup counter and get it professionally applied!

‘Its Like Rain, On Your Wedding Day’

Alanis Morisette said it best, having it rain on your wedding day can be ‘ironic’ but there are way to make your day just as beautiful and special. If the weather is saying rain there are a couple precautionary procedures you can do to make sure your ceremony and reception run smoothly and your wedding dress staying white.

1. Have a plan-B

This can go for all different aspects of your wedding. If any part of your wedding is even a little bit outdoors, and your expecting rain. Make sure you have the right materials such as a tent to create an overhang.

2. Choose the right hairstyle

Discuss with your stylist beforehand to see which options you have if your hair has extra frizz because of the high humidity. Also make sure to have extra hairspray and any hair tools on hand, especially if you have curls.

3.Protect your guests!

Have umbrellas for your guests to use if they need to go outside. To make this more creative, get them in your wedding colors or customized with your names & date printed across the top. Ponchos would also be a good idea if  if it is expected to be heavy rain. These will also act as cute party favor for your guests to take home at the end of the night.

4. Bring out the rain boots

Try not to put on your dress or your shoes until your inside for good. You don’t want any water marks or mud on the rim of your dress or your white shoes. Think about wearing rain boots until your inside in order to stay clean and dry!

Creative Tip: Save a few drops of rain to save in a bottle for a memorable piece!

A Wedding Dress That Will Flatter Your Body Shape!

When choosing a wedding dress you want to make sure it is the correct silhouette for your body shape that will look flattering in person and in pictures!

Pear Shaped:

Chose an A-Line wedding dress that gradually flares out from the waist downward to make your mid section appear narrow. You want to make the focus your upper half by wearing a one shoulder, strapless, v-neck or scoop neckline.

We recommend:

Liz Fields Style #9233
This strapless ball gown style dress with a full skirt is the perfect dress to accentuate your tiny waist!  The  jewel encrusted waistband brings even more attention to your top half and minimizes your waist.

Busty:

Many women believe if you have a larger bust you are unable to wear any type of strapless style, this is untrue! It is all about choosing the right type of strapless neckline for your bust. Look for a style with a scoop neckline or just any type of slight dip along the neckline. This will still showcase your cleavage but in a classy, appropriate way. Avoid a straight across neckline or any type of fabric with a sheen to it such as organza or silk which will actually make your bust appear even larger.

We recommend:

Liz Fields Style #8369
This sweetheart neckline made out of crisp Taffeta is the perfect fabric and neckline that will flatter a larger bust.

Tall:

For taller women look for a simple silhouette that will emphasize your natural shape. A good way of doing this is having a lower waistline and a floor sweeping hem!

We recommend:

Liz Fields Style #9229
This mermaid style wedding dress is great for taller women with long torso’s. The silhouette is still simple but the jewel embellishment adds a little interest to make the bride feel extra special.

Petite:

Smaller body frames want to look for a modified A-line wedding dress that lays above your natural waistline that will make you appear longer. There is no specific type of fabric to look for you can either chose a simple material or one with sheen however you want to keep the attention towards your top half. Avoid any big details such as an over-sized bow which will make you look disproportionate.

We recommend:

Liz Fields Style #9232

This empire waist gown with a silver embellished detail at the bust is the perfect waistline to make you appear long and lean! The chiffon cascade detail in the front is the right amount of detail to add height without being overwhelming.

How to: Rustic Wedding

An obvious choice of venue for a rustic themed wedding reception is a barn!  Don’t live in a rural area?  Don’t worry there are barns all over the country in all different sizes.  There are ways of decoration to make it formal if that’s what you are going for or to keep it casual.  This type of venue is a perfect way to be unique and create an intimate ceremony.

Use long picnic tables for your guests!  If you’re going casual this is an easy way to have your guests choose their own seats.

Instead of using traditional glass vases as a centerpiece, use carved out pumpkins with flowers!  This is a unique way to add another color to your palette and is the perfect addition if you are having your rustic wedding during the autumn!

Have your guests names attached to an apple and place at their seat.  This is more creative than regular place cards and is another way to tie in your theme!

For the bouquets, add small pine cones and accents of burlap to tie in the textures of the barn.  This still remains romantic and is different from the usual flower bouquets.

To go more country, have your bridesmaids wear cowboy boots with their  bridesmaid dresses!

Barns tend to be very dark so a lot of lighting is essential in creating a good environment.  To create an intimate setting use string lighting across the ceiling as well as lanterns on each table.  If you are having a more formal reception, have a few chandeliers hanging from the ceiling to add elegance.

A Wedding Day Hairstyle for Every Hair Type

When choosing a hairstyle for your wedding day there are different factors to take into consideration such as your hair type and what it will look like at the end of the night, and if it will compliment the style of wedding dress you have chosen.

SHORT HAIR

It is hard for a bride with a short style to make your hair look different from your everyday, ordinary do.  Here are some suggestions to add a touch of glamour.

* Curl

If your hair has a little length, but is still not long enough to do an up-do,
try doing loose, wavy curls.  This will add softness, and make you feel like
your look is put together and complete.

* Embellish

If you have naturally straight hair that is resistant to curling or is just
too short, put on a detailed headband or elegant hair pin. This is your
chance to accessorize your wedding dress in a different way than just
wearing extravagant jewelry or shoes.

MEDIUM LENGTH HAIR

This is the easiest hair length for special occasions because it is not too long and heavy for up do’s but is still enough to create a style.

* Braid

Braiding can give your hair texture and dimension. You can either use
them to create an edgier look or a simple ‘goddess’ effect. This would be
good for a younger bride with darker hair who is having a non-formal
ceremony and reception

* Chignon

A low textured chignon (a fancy name for a bun!) that is set off to the
side is a romantic style that looks good on all hair colors and face shapes.
The key to this style is for it to look natural and unpolished. You want to
curl your hair beforehand and have loose curls flowing freely. This works
best for people that have angles towards the front of their hair or longer
bangs.

LONG HAIR

With this hair length you have the most options to choose from when it comes to hair styles. It’s your chance to be creative and different!

* High Ponytail

A pulled back ponytail is a way to focus on your top half and is good if
you are wearing statement jewelry. To make it fancy add a little volume
at the crown of your head but be careful not to tease too much! Look at
your ponytail from different angles in order to find the right height.
Then you can chose to either curl the remainder of your hair or leave
it straight.

* Half-up

This timeless style will always look good on all long hair! Create loose,
tousled waves with a little volume at the crown. Then pull back the top
half of your hair, leaving a few front pieces to frame your face. To make
it more complete, twist the two sides towards each other and add a
sparkly accessory to cover the pins!

Picking the Perfect Bridesmaid Dress

There is nothing worse than being the bridesmaid who puts on an act of loving to wear that dreadful, tacky bridesmaids dress that the bride swore would be the most flattering dress because it obviously would look good on every body type.

Here are some tips for the bride to make sure their bridesmaids are the perfect complement on their big day:

Consider your environment

Much like your wedding dress, you want to make sure the bridesmaids’ dresses are cohesive with your theme and venue. When going for an outdoor wedding, choose something casual that still looks put together without taking away from the scenery.

Let the spotlight be on you

Don’t be afraid to act like a little bit of a diva! Today is your day and even though you want your wedding party to feel comfortable, stay away from dresses with a lot of embellishments or details.

Cover up!

Any cleavage should be put away and left to the imagination.  Every bridesmaid will have a different body type, it is important to consider these factors especially when choosing a strapless or low V-neck line. This is up to each individual bride, but major tattoos or piercings can go along with taking away from the bride’s attention. If the dress does not cover any tattoos that you wish to not be shown in your photos there are always options such as airbrush makeup, which is a temporary concealer that can be removed with soap and water.

Try Letting Your Bridesmaids Wear Different Style Dresses

This has become more of a trend lately where the bride allows the bridesmaids to pick out their own dresses that can either be different styles, lengths, or colors. This would be most appropriate for a more casual wedding or if you’re on a budget!

Still not comfortable going that casual? Stick to the same color scheme but with different necklines and lengths.

Summer Wedding Tips to Beat the Heat

With the summer heat beating down at over 90 degrees even at 5:30 in the evening, it may be hard to imagine planning a wedding during the summer months.  There are certainly many things to consider, such as cost, and vendor availability, as the summer is the most popular time to get married.  If you do decide to plan your wedding day for a summer month, here are some tips to beat the heat:

1.  Wear light fabrics and make sure you have your wedding party do the same.  The only thing worse than picking an uncomfortably dress for your summer wedding day is picking out bridesmaid dresses that are not season appropriate.  You do not want 4 heat-frustrated ex-friends on your hands!  Try Liz Fields bridesmaid dress style #430 for a light feminine style.

2.  Consider an evening wedding when things will have cooled off considerably.  With some good timing and luck, you might even get a beautiful sunset as the backdrop for your vows!

3.  If you are planning to have your wedding outside, plan for a location where there is breeze, like the ocean.  Most guests will not mind the hot weather if they have an ocean breeze on their faces and a beautiful view.

4.  Embrace the summer as part of your wedding theme by handing out fans as favors for your guests as the walk in.  This is a wedding favor they will use over and over and remember your special day.
