Dress Guide for the Holidays: Style Tips from Wedding Dress Designer, Liz Fields

I know that deciding what to wear during the holidays can be daunting.  Here is a little style guide that I have put together for the holiday season.  I hope that you find it helpful, but, most of all, don’t forget to have fun!  You will look great no matter what you are wearing!

The Occasion- The holiday dinner where you meet HIS parents for the first time

Liz Fields Bridesmaid & Social Dress Style #350

The explanation – It is important not to seem overly sexy but still show off your beautiful self.  This strapless social occasion dress is perfect for the stressful, make-it-or-break-it event.  The square-neckline is flattering without showing off too much skin.  The added wrap-around bow detail could even give the subliminal message that you are the perfect gift for their son!

The Occasion- Evening get-together with your family (be it Christmas Eve,  Hanukkah, Kwanza, or a reunion)

Liz Fields Bridesmaid & Social Dress Style #365

The explanation – Having a family dinner can feel like navigating a minefield, depending on your personal family dynamic.  You want to look your best to keep any ‘loving criticisms’ to a minimum.  At the same time, you may not want to dress too obviously sexy because like the “meeting his parents challenge,” it might not go over the way you intended.  In this case, social occasion dress , style 365 will fit the bill. The v-neck will look stunning on you, while the pencil skirt will remind your family that you are the good daughter!

The Occasion –  Girls night out

Liz Fields Bridesmaid & Social Dress Style #255

The explanation – It’s time to have some fun with the girls, and maybe even exchange some of those presents.  Now that you don’t have to worry about what you need to keep covered up,  feel free to let loose with this special occasion dress.  The wrapped details in the bodice are figure flattering, so all of your friends will be jealous of how great you look (even if you don’t want to admit you were trying)!

The Occasion – New Year’s Eve

Liz Fields Bridesmaid & Social Dress Style #370

The explanation – Whether you are spending the night alone with your special someone or going to a big party, this a time to make sure you look and feel your best. The Chinese see red as the color of happiness and wealth so why not add a little red detail as a good luck charm for the new year to come (it will look sexy too).  This V-neck, halter-top social occasion dress will do just that.

Now, don’t forget that after the Holidays wind down, Valentine’s Day is right around the corner!  This day is especially important if you learn that the man in your life is planning on proposing.  With that in mind, you might want to start giving some thought to what you’ll be wearing on that special night!  Personally, I would go with something cute, short, flirty, and of course red.  Perhaps something like this  red  formal dress, Style #362.

Liz Fields Bridesmaid & Social Dress Style #362

Of course, after he proposes, you know exactly where to head to pick out the perfect wedding gown!

Happy Holidays!

Liz Fields

FASHION WEEK RECAP: Liz Fields Spring/Summer 2011 Fashion Show

September 18, 2010 by nyprdiva

Besides Mercedes Benz/IMG, there are other groups that hosted Fashion Week in New York this season—including NOLCHA. Started by Kerry Bannigan, a Brit with a passion for fashion and business, NOLCHA is one of the “leading business platforms for independent fashion designers and retailers” by providing educational and event resources and thus “making business easy for the fashion minded.” In the short time that NOLCHA has been around, the company has done great things for brands that may not have had the opportunity to showcase themselves to the world. So each season, when the invitation for NOLCHA Fashion Week (which ran September 13th- 16th), I make it a point to attend some of their events. This season, I was introduced to the lovely bridal and evening wear collection of Liz Fields.

Named after the designer, Liz Fields is a luxury, special occasion (weddings, black-tie, red carpet, and more) brand that last year with launched with their Spring 2010 collection. The brand’s mission is to “create gowns that women fall in love with.”  With their Spring 2011 collection, they definitely achieved that goal.

The show had almost an ethereal feel to it with the models walking barefoot (odd at first, but when you continued watching the show, it fit perfectly) on a rose petal- covered runway. Featuring the traditional hues of Spring and Summer (teals, pinks, whites, creams and yellow), the collection featured pieces that were very much about the minute details (pearl beadings, gem appliqués, floral additions, etc) as well as the overall look. Liz took into account every aspect of the dress ensuring that the woman lucky enough to wear it would look absolutely gorgeous.

Buyer Beware of Internet Schemes

We know how important your wedding day is to you.  It is supposed to be the day where you feel the most beautiful.  Imagine for a moment that you fell in love with a Liz Fields bridal gown.  As an internet savvy woman, you have searched for your gown online and discovered it selling for a price that is unmatched at any retail store location you have visited.  You know that this seems too good to be true but you order the dress quickly before the website changes their price and you lose the opportunity.  Now your wedding day is approaching and you receive your bridal gown in the mail.  In great excitement, you open that box, only to discover in horror that it is not the dress in the picture and is of a much lower quality.  You have not received a Liz Fields wedding dress but rather a cheap knock-off and you have just been scammed!

Several of our Authorized Retail locations do offer online sales through their websites, however, it is difficult to know from the home page who is an Authorized Retailer and who is selling cheap knock-offs and illegally using the “Liz Fields” name.  Please take the extra time to click on the “Contact Us” portion of the retailer’s website and call to find out if they are actually authorized to sell Liz Fields, and what the name is of their actual store.  Just because you find a Liz Fields wedding dress online does not automatically make it a knock-off.  Check with our Store Locator to see if they are truly selling Liz Fields gowns.  This way, you can protect yourself from an unnecessary wedding day nightmare.  If you still remain unsure if the dress you are about to order is a true Liz Fields dress, please feel free to contact us.  We read all of our emails and we will be happy to steer you in the right direction.

Also, please keep in mind that when you go to a boutique, you might pay a little more for your gown, but you are getting service and attention that you will not receive when you purchase online.  Using a store for fittings and then ordering online is exactly why stores around the country keep closing their doors.  When visiting a storefront retail location in your area you are not only giving revenue back to your community, but you are also ensuring that you get a proper fitting gown, and that it arrives correct and on-time.  You are also opening yourself up to options you may not know about when you just visit an online store.  This is a joyous time for you and our Authorized Retailers are wonderful, ready to share your joy, and knowledgeable enough to make your day as wonderful as it can be.

Discover the Lo-Ve-La charm at a boutique near you.

Wedding Style Tips For Hot Summer Days

It is currently 103° outside!  Just thinking about how hot it is makes me feel overheated!

I can’t help but think that on a day like today I would hate being a bride wearing a huge wedding dress with a long train.  Even if the dress is sleeveless, +100° weather is not the time to mess around!

If you are considering having your wedding on a lovely summer day, here are some styles I recommend to stay cool in while still looking gorgeous.

The dresses shown are from our Liz Fields Destination Bridal collection, and with their light chiffon and charmeuse fabrics you will feel as great as you look!

Meanwhile, don’t forget about your girls.  If your bridesmaids are dropping like flies in the heat it might just put a damper on your wedding!  I’m joking, but as someone who was a Maid of Honor just a few years ago, little things like heat can be very distracting, and you don’t want anything distracting from your day.

This style is perfect if you want your bridesmaids dresses to have a formal look during the ceremony, but a ready-to-dance look at the reception.

Keep cool, and remember that the national weather service recommends that you say in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

And The Winners Are…

Hello Everyone, I am sad to say that our Fashion Origami contests have come to a close!  It has been so much fun!

First, I would like to introduce our guest judges, Carolyn and Kate.  Carolyn and Kate are sisters, and you may recall Carolyn is my 8-year-old friend who originally inspired this entire origami series.

For those who haven’t been following from the beginning here is a summary of the contests

Our Contest :  At Liz Fields we are going to make one origami garment each day and post them here. Whoever has the best collection at the end of 60 days, wins! Think of it as Project Runway meets Julie & Julia.

Your Contest:  We would love you play along with us!  Send us your own fashion origami creations and at the end of 60 days one lucky contestant will win a Liz Fields original hairpiece featured in our Fall 2010 photo shoot!  This is a great unique accessory to wear on your wedding day!

Now it is my pleasure to congratulate Anna, from Chicago, Illinois, on her origami wedding dress submission.  Great job Anna, we will be contacting you soon!

I am also pleased to announce the winner of our own Liz Fieldsorigami contest.  The winner is, Roxan!

Here is what Carolyn and Kate had to say about their decision.

“We chose this because we love how she made the wedding dress with the tiers and we loved the purple shoes with the matching bag.  Very cool!”

A big thank you to all of our participants, I hope you had as much fun making your origami pieces as we did!  Of course thank you to Carolyn and Kate for being great guest judges!

Kasia’s Bridal Shower

Last weekend was my good friend Kasia’s bridal shower.  The theme was garden tea party and we were all asked to make our own hats for the event. I was worried how my hat would turn out at first, but I soon got into the whole idea when my hat arrived in the mail ready and waiting to be decorated.

Here I am with the group!  I made the hat to match my dress of course, which is Liz Fields style #254 in case you were wondering :-)

After we were all done posing with our lovely hats it was time for games!

In this picture, I am playing a game I had never heard of before.  The idea was to roll an ice cube in your hands that had a plastic ring inside, whoever got the ring out first and on to the Bride’s finger won.  I did not… it was cold!

I did however win a game of Bridal Shower Gift Bingo, earning me another hat, which I then wore for the rest of the party.

Have you had a bridal shower recently?  What games did you play?  Did you have a special theme like Kasia?  With such a great bridal shower theme, I can’t wait until the actual wedding!

If you are planning to attend a bridal shower soon, visit www.lizfields.com and view our social occasion dresses for your party by style, or, NOW by color!  Find a store near you by searching for an authorized Liz Fields retailer today.
