Bride’s Younger Sister Defies The Odds

Bridesmaid Inspiration In yet another inspiring bridal story, a young bridesmaid defied the odds of never walking again to make sure she was there for her big sister on her big day. One night while driving home, a deer jumped in front of 18 year old Mackenzie Gordon’s car – and as a result of avoiding the deer, she swerved, flipping her car into a ditch and breaking her neck.

Doctors told Mackenzie that she would never be able to stand on her own two feet again, let alone walk, but with her big sister’s wedding day on the horizon, she made it her personal goal to be able to walk down the aisle.

“I never accepted that I couldn’t walk again,” the captain of her cheerleading squad explained, “If I don’t want to be in the chair, I’ve got to do something myself to get out of it.”

Some of Mackenzie’s locomotor therapy documented on video.

It was when her new doctor at a new hospital was also paralyzed, and she realized that her dreams were not out of reach (especially since she had wanted to study to become a nurse) and she could still achieve them. By using a form of therapy called “locomotor therapy,” the motions of walking are recreated with force until the spinal cord essentially regains its memory.

So, it started with being able to stand just over 20 seconds, then after two months, those seconds turned into about five minutes – and soon enough, Mackenzie walked down the aisle in the same shoes as the other bridesmaids and stood beside her sister.

Way to go, Mackenzie!

Bridesmaids Funny Girl A Bridesmaid No More!

Celebrity WeddingEllie Kemper took on the role of playing the quirky, Pixar-obsessed, obsessive compulsive, bridesmaid in the popular, box-office hit, Bridesmaids. However, the roles have turned and Kemper has officially tied the knot with former writer for Conan O’Brian, Michael Koman. The funny girl, actress has a star studded wedding with some comedic relief from Bridesmaids co-star, Kristen Wiig, and The Office co-star, Mindy Kaling.

Celebrity WeddingAfter announcing her engagement in December, by no coincidence, on Conan, she has been doing several interviews on how she even surprised herself with being a bridezilla. Kemper explained, “I was always like, ‘I’m going to be the cool bride! I’m going to be laid back about everything!’ But it turns out I’m not.” The funny girl from The Office went onto explain that her fiance is getting the worst of the bridezilla lashing, “With Michael, my fiance, I’ve been like, ‘Why don’t you contribute?’ So, then he contributes an idea and I’m like, ‘That’s a terrible idea! Stop contributing!’”

Knowing the bride’s personality through interviews and even in her acting roles, this wedding must have really been a fun wedding to get the invite to. While Kemper’s acting career has driven her into the friend roles, her execution of the smaller parts is on point with the comedic relief.

Bridesmaid Dishes On Nene Leakes Wedding

BridesmaidEven though the Atlanta Housewife, Nene Leakes, has filmed her recent nuptials to her ex-husband for a Bravo! series spin-off, there is nothing like an exclusive interview with a bridesmaid that can really dish on the things that the camera’s could not capture. Leakes’ best friend and LA Basketball Wife, Laura Govan, recently opened up about how anything dealing with Nene Leakes is a good time.

While the camera’s undoubtedly captured some dramatic moments (reality TV would be nothing without it), Govan explained how the bridesmaids dresses posed more problems that the actual bride and her demands. “What I wanted was something different,” Govan explained, “I didn’t get it, but we worked it out. As a matter of fact, I took pieces out of the trashcan. I took some scraps to make it work.” Of course, it may seem like not letting a woman such as Laura Govan have her dream bridesmaid dress would put a damper on the friendship, but she assured that it was anything, but that.

“She’s very mothering,” Govan gushed about Leakes, “She’s very wise. She gives me a lot, a lot of my knowledge with TV, life, being a woman, coming up in this business, what I should do, what I shouldn’t do. I admire her as a person, as a woman. So, I appreciate everything that she’s done for me and has given to me.” That is exactly what fans like to see! Friends who can work out their differences and still appreciate each other’s worth.

She Borrowed Her Bridesmaids?

Bridesmaids On my way into work this morning, I was actually listening to the radio, which is rare. However, I heard a news story that actually caught my eye (or ear, rather), and on Miami’s hit radio stations, an interesting news report is hard to come by. Anyways, the DJ started talking about how he has noticed women putting “Want-Ads” online to fill up their bridal party.

I can understand this if you want a big wedding and need a few extra fillers, but one woman called in to explain her side of the story and why did she rent her bridesmaids? So, it would look like she had more attractive friends. Come on! As horrible as it sounds, there are many lonely brides out there that might not be able to find themselves some bridesmaids before the big day, but to totally knock your friends out just so these people can make your wedding photos look better? Now, either this bride thought her friends were not up to her standards, or this bride did not think things through and there is a chance these model bridesmaids outshined her.

Now, the radio hosts tried their best to reason with this bride and how she basically rented her bridesmaids, they just could not understand to her extent. The number one rule of a wedding is that no one outshines the bride, so why put beautiful people in beautiful suits and bridesmaid dresses next to you in the photos of your big life celebration? Whatever the case may be, one can always rely on the radio to entertain us daily and seriously put some of the new wedding trends into serious question.

OC Housewife Still Surprised Over Bridesmaid Pick

Bridesmaid DressesThe Real Housewives of Orange County easily ranks on the top of the housewives list from the Bravo! network. Now, within the OC housewives, there has been countless cat fights and name calling, but when the leader of the pack, Tamra Barney, got into a fight with her supposed best friend, Gretchen Rossi, she was short a bridesmaid for her long anticipated wedding to her fiancé, Eddie.

It was not known to OC housewife fans that Rossi got the axe from the alter until photos were uploaded to the Instagram accounts of Rossi and Heather Dubrow, who replaced Rossi as a bridesmaid. It was a surprising choice for Barney as she and Dubrow had only met almost two years ago, but onscreen, they did click right upon meeting each other. Although they may have bonded a lot over the past two seasons, Dubrow was still shocked when Barney asked her to be a maid. “We were going over wedding details and having cocktails and it was really lovely. And then she asked me to be a bridesmaid in her wedding! I was completely floored, shocked, very honored. I thought it was so sweet,” Dubrow explained.

Soul Surfer Marries On Hawaiian Hilltop

Wedding NewsIt was in October of 2003 that Hawaiian native, Bethany Hamilton was attacked by a Tiger shark while surfing with her best friend Alana Blanchard and Blanchard’s father. The shark bit Hamilton’s arm off within a split second attack, and a massive hunt was initiated to find the shark that attacked the young girl (Hamilton was 13 years old at the time). Now, in 2013, Hamilton married Christian youth minister, Adam Dirks.

In 2011, the movie Soul Surfer was released based on Hamilton’s shark attack and her recovery and return to the competitive surfing world. Her struggles were unimaginable and she explained in an interview with InTouch magazine, “I always felt it would be hard to meet someone because I’m different. To say I was completely comfortable looking at myself in the mirror and seeing one arm would be a lie. I just had to trust in God and know that he had someone special for me.” Dirks and Hamilton met through mutual friends at their church and married on the north shore of Kauai, Hawaii.

Governor’s Daughter Returns $15K Wedding Gift

Merlin_18012851_image_982wGovernor Robert McDonnell of Virginia has been under some serious investigation in recent months from his family being offered so many expensive and free gifts from those who have endorsed his campaign. In the state of Virginia, it is required that any gift given to the state’s first family worth over $50 must be made aware to Federal Officials. While his wife has accepted countless gifts to improve her public appearance, new reports are claiming his daughter returned a check for $15,000 given to her as a wedding gift.

The check came from one of Governor McDonnell’s biggest endorsers, Jonnie Williams, who has given the family thousands of dollars in gifts already. Upon the federal investigation, McDonnell has hired a private legal team to return all the funds back to Williams. However, Attorney General, Ken Cuccinelli stated otherwise saying that the governor will not be reimbursing Williams as the $18,000 in gifts has included already used vacations, dinners, and private jet travel, all of which are things that cannot be given back.

Upon word that both of the Governor’s daughter’s were engaged, rumors began swirling that a majority of the wedding festivities would be funded by Williams’ company which manufactures nutritional supplements. Cuccinelli gained word that both the Governor’s daughters returned their wedding checks, both for $15,000 and he stated that he was pleased the Governor finally took some initiative.

Mother of Five Loses $23k Wedding Ring at Garage Sale

wedding_image
A California resident by the name of Racquel Cloutier gave birth to her fifth child this week, and prior to going into labor she placed her wedding ring into a wooden jewelry box for safe keeping. Her husband, in an attempt to get rid of excess materials from the home prior to his wife’s return, accidentally sold the wooden box in a garage sale for ten dollars. The ring was valued at $23,000 and Cloutier is offering a reward to whoever can return the ring to her. The couple suspects that whoever bought the jewelry box has no idea that the wedding ring is inside of it. The happy mother of five is hoping that whoever has the ring will come forward once they realize it’s in their possession. Wedding rings are an invaluable keepsake and should always be kept in a safe place. The stress of going through labor is enough to make someone lose just about anything, and accidents like can be avoided with a little planning. When it comes to finding the perfect wedding ring, one of the number one things to keep in mind is that insurance is a must especially should something like this happen. If you are unsure how to go about getting insurance for your wedding ring, there are local agents everywhere who can help you out.

Finding a great wedding ring is more than just a trip to the jeweler. For men, it’s important to communicate with their significant other as far as design and material are concerned. This may seem like a quick way to ruin a big surprise, but by being communicative you can avoid disappointment and a potential argument. This is particularly important if you are planning on getting a wedding ring or a custom wedding dress that is costly. It’s better to talk openly about your partner’s preferences rather than spend a lot of money on something that they may not like. Another good practice is to look at more than one jewelry shop and study up about the different diamond grades so that you have a good understanding and knowledge about what you’re actually purchasing. This way, you won’t have to worry about getting ripped off or purchasing a low quality diamond with a high quality price tag. Diamonds aren’t something that people buy everyday so it’s to be expected that you’ll have to do a little research before making this kind of purchase. Beyond buying a wedding ring, always remember the reason for the gesture in the first place. Couples can get caught up in the details and stress of planning a wedding to the point of forgetting the real reason for all of the planning. Your wedding day, and the wedding planning process is something that you will remember for the rest of your life so always keep sight of your intentions and don’t get overwhelmed by material obligations.

Dock Collapses at Wedding, Leaving Bridal Party Soaked

custom bridesmaid dresses

Over the weekend, a wedding in Gainsville, Georgia ended up being one of the most memorable experiences ever, even if for the wrong reasons. A wedding party of 27 people were on the dock at the scenic wedding location when it broke, sending the entire bridal party plunging into the lake below them. One of the bridesmaids suffered from a fractured bone, but other than that nobody was hurts. Onlookers said that you could hear playful screams and shouts and that overall the experience was humorous and livened up the proceedings.   Everyone was said to have dried off, and the wedding and reception went on as planned.

Weddings are a great place to create long lasting memories, and it’s important to remember that if something like this happens to you, not to panic. Panic at a wedding is one of the worst types of emotions to feel due to the fact that A. there’s probably not a whole lot that you can do to change your circumstances and B. you will remember whatever is happening for the rest of your life. There is always more than one way to handle a situation. Over the weekend, this bride had a number of different choices and she chose to not make the worst of an already less-than-ideal situation. Instead of making a big deal, or worse, turning into a “brideszilla”, this bride took the high road and made everyone feel like they were okay, because she was okay.

Making people feel comfortable at your wedding is a huge part to having an successful event. People are sensitive, and can easily pick up on others emotions. If a bride or groom is unhappy on their big day, chances are their “vibes” will wear off on the rest of the party, making everyone noticeably uncomfortable. The more calm, cool and collected you act at your wedding, the more enjoyable it will be for everyone in attendance. The fact of the matter is that when a situation like this one arises, you are presented with a choice. It’s much easier to panic than to take a moment, breathe and make the best of the situation. It helps to prepare yourself mentally for snafus before they happen. Going into your wedding with a mindset of preparedness and confidence that you can handle anything that life throws you will help you to remain strong and more important to remain grateful despite what shortcomings you may experience.

Had this bride freaked out when her entire wedding party fell into the lake, wedding and bridesmaid dresses in tact, she wouldn’t have had the perspective that this was the “best day of her life” and that the experience made her wedding beyond memorable. We can all take a page from this brides book when it comes to making the most out of accidents and moving forward with the plans we have to share with our loved ones on the big day!
