Prom Trends From Liz Fields

Liz Fields Prom

It is the last week in August and some of you may be noticing a slight chill in the air as you walk outside in the morning.  For many, high school will be starting next week, and you know what that means… prom is right around the corner! Well maybe not “right around”, but it is certainly not too early to start planning what you want to wear!

Of course, I’m excited about prom season because this will be the year we premier our Liz Fields prom collection!  I hope you will love it as much as I loved creating it.

What I want to share with you today is some of the inspiration behind our prom line, and the trends that we at Liz Fields predicted for the prom 2012 season.

  • Bold colors, such as bright purples, turquoises, and shades of red.
  • In contrast, we noticed that white dresses were going to be another trend, possibly influenced by Pippa Middleton wearing a white dress to her sister Kate Middleton’s wedding.  On a side note, if you are looking for a dress inspired by Pippa Middelton’s fashion , take a look at Liz Fields bridesmaid dress style 400.
  • Showing a little skin is a prom trend that is continuing on to Spring 2012.  This could be anything from a flirty slit on the skirt, to a cut-out on the back of the dress.
  • Sequined dresses have been around for a long time, going in and out of style. This year you will be seeing the sequins used to create a larger pattern on the dress, in addition to the all-around shimmer that is classically known.

Spring is Here!

Its official my friends, spring is here! It may not feel like it where you live, but don’t worry, it will before you know it.

The first thing I think of when I hear spring is color! In September, WWD predicted the top-10 Pantone colors for the upcoming spring 2011 season. Amongst them were colors such as: Coral Rose, Beeswax, and Silver Cloud.

At the same time, our Liz Fields style #300 was featured in Us Weekly Magazine In the “Hollywood Trend Watch – Look of the week/Look for Less” section. Us Weekly felt that our social occasion dress served as the perfect alternative to that of Odette Yustman’s Mousseline gown!  We were of course honored at the comparison, but also concerned, as we did not yet have that color option available. Well, now we are proud to announce that we do!

In addition to adding Tangerine to our vast selection of color options for bridesmaid and social occasion dresses, we have also added Orange, Magenta, and Charcoal, (colors that have a distinct resemblance to those predicted to be hot by WWD all those months ago). We have also added two additional print fabrics to our collection as well!

Liz Fields exhibits Wedding Dresses at Bride Chic: Bergen County Brides Event

Hello friends, I hope the beginning of the holiday season is going well for everyone!

I spent my Thursday night getting to know some really special people that I wanted to tell you about.

I was invited to show our wedding dresses at the Bride Chic: Bergen County Brides Cocktail Party, which was to benefit Wish Upon A Wedding - New Jersey.  This was an exclusive, one vendor per category event, so of course I was very happy to have been asked to attend.

The Bride Chic event, presented by the Women’s Club of Ridgewood New Jersey, was held in a beautiful, historic Colonial building.  I heard a few brides enquiring about the space for themselves.

Not only was this a great opportunity to showcase our Lo-Ve-La by Liz Fields wedding dress collections, but it was great fun as well!  How could it not be with delicious food, wine tasting, and of course prizes!  Oh and did I mention that  the event was emceed by Lisa Page, DJ of 92.3 and that Megin DeCarlo, of ‘My Big Friggin Wedding’ spent the night giving tips to brides-to-be!?

My new friend Nestor Cristancho, photographed this posh event, and was kind enough to share some images of our bridal gowns  for you to enjoy!

What should Kate Middleton wear at her wedding to Prince William?

Unless you have been living under a rock this morning, you have already heard that Kate Middleton and Prince William are engaged! I wish them all the happiness in the world and look forward to hearing more about their wedding plans in the months to come.  Of course, what I am most interested to hear about is what will she wear!?

So Kate, on the chance that you come across this blog, I wanted to share my top 4 picks for the Liz Fields wedding dresses that I think would look the most amazing on you (because a girl’s gotta have choices).

1. The modern one-shoulder trend is at its peak right now; and with its silky organza draped bodice, beaded appliqué, and ruffle tulle embroidered skirt it would be hard not to feel like royalty in this gown, even if your name isn’t Kate Middleton.

2. Kate appears to be all about elegant sophistication, and an ease of style, luckily that’s exactly what Liz Fields bridal gowns are about as well!  In this dress, Kate can show off her figure with the fit and flare silhouette, and wow the on-looking crowds with the original 3-D accenting chiffon flower details.

3. Of course as the future Princess of England, you can’t go wrong with the classic ballgown silhouette!   This ballgown screams “Princess” with features such as a sweetheart neckline, a beaded corset bodice with hand-tufted skirt over a layer of embroidered lace, silky organza flowers, and rosettes throughout the gown.

4.  My final pick is more on the trendy side than the other three, but I have faith that Kate could pull it off without a hitch!  This bridal gown features a Square neckline, and pleated bodice with a show-stopping 3-D abstract floral embroidered skirt.  The Colored sash at waist enhances the silhouette and adds that extra pop of color.  With this bridal gown, Kate could either stick with the trendy black or choose a more traditional all white gown.

So those are my top choices, but I would love to know what yours are!  Visit www.lizfields.com and pick your favorite wedding dress for Kate to wear and leave a comment, there is nothing more fun than playing dress-up with a princess!

Top 5 Spooky Wedding Dresses To Appear In the Movies

Halloween is almost here and I’m sure you’ve been wondering, “How can I use a wedding dress as my Halloween costume?” …what only me?  Maybe it’s just because of the abundance of bridal gowns I’m surrounded by every day, haha.

Semi-seriously though, the “trash the dress” photo sessions appear to be very trendy right now.  Why not use your wedding dress (which you already know you look amazing in) one last time as a Halloween costume?  Many photographers may even include a “trash the dress” session as part of their wedding photo packages.  If your wedding is being held in the fall, making your session Halloween themed is a great nod towards the season.

In any case, I’ve come up with a list of the best wedding dresses to appear in a scary or Halloween themed movie.  For those of you who still have not chosen a costume, perhaps this will serve as inspiration.  Or maybe it will simply inspire you to rent one of these spooky flicks for your weekend.  In any case, enjoy and Happy Halloween!

1.      The Bride of Frankenstein

Mary Shelley reveals the main characters of her novel survived: Dr. Frankenstein (goaded by an even madder scientist) builds his monster a mate.

2.      Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

The infamous story of Benjamin Barker, a.k.a Sweeney Todd, who sets up a barbershop down in London, which is the basis for a sinister partnership with his fellow tenant, Mrs. Lovett.

Wedding Trend Alert: Pin-Up Girl Photo Shoot

Last week, a friend of mine asked me if I had heard about the latest wedding trend of “pin-up girl” photo shoots.  To my surprise, I had heard of this from none other than our head designer, Liz Fields.  Liz’s friend Kasia (whose garden tea party bridal shower was mentioned in the blog last month) had a pin-up girl bachelorette party just a few weekends ago!

I love this wonderful and different idea for a bachelorette party.  Who needs male strippers when you can make your girls and yourself feel beautiful, and have lasting proof to show off too!

Liz attended GWU with Kasia, and was lucky enough to be included to the bachelorette party even though she is not in the bridal party because she designed Kasia’s bridal gown and bridesmaids dresses, which will be unveiled in a blog towards the end of August!

This is a picture of Liz Fields, Kasia, and Kasia’s sister Agata

The party was hosted at Kasia’s house in Long Island NY.  There was professional hair and make-up available for everyone and a photography studio was set up in one of the emptier rooms of their house.  Everybody brought outfits,  pieces of costumes, accessories, shoes, etc and consolidated them into one “dress-up” room where girls could change as many times as they wanted throughout the night and get some shots taken.

Liz said that the photography women were amazing – ready with props and made it very easy and comfortable to pose.  They were especially good with telling each girl what to do and how to change their pose to make them look their best.

Would you consider a pin-up girl bachelorette party?  I know I am.  What are some interesting bachelorette party trends that you have heard about?
